Step 3 — Melt the Soy Wax
Place soy wax flakes or chunks in your melting pot or double boiler top.
Heat slowly — soy wax melts at 46°C to 52°C but always heat to 75°C to 80°C for complete melt and good fragrance binding.
Temperature monitoring:
75°C to 80°C — melt and heat to this temperature
Check with thermometer — do not rely on visual appearance alone
Soy wax appears fully melted before it actually reaches uniform temperature

Step 5 — Cool to Fragrance Addition Temperature
Allow melted and dyed wax to cool naturally from 75°C to 80°C down to fragrance addition temperature:
Target fragrance addition temperature: 60°C to 65°C
Why this specific temperature?
Too hot (above 70°C) — volatile top note fragrance compounds evaporate before the wax sets — reduced hot throw
Too cool (below 55°C) — wax begins to thicken — fragrance doesn't incorporate fully — mottling and uneven distribution
60°C to 65°C — ideal window — fragrance binds to wax molecules properly — maximum hot and cold throw

Step 6 — Add Fragrance Oil
At 60°C to 65°C — add your pre-measured fragrance oil:
Add fragrance slowly — pour in a thin stream while stirring

Thorough stirring ensures complete binding of fragrance molecules to wax molecules

Step 7 — Pour into Containers
After thorough stirring — allow wax to cool slightly to pour temperature:
Target pour temperature: 55°C to 60°C
Pour the wax slowly and steadily into prepared containers — avoid splashing which creates air bubbles. Fill to approximately 1cm below the container rim — leave space for the wax to contract slightly as it cools.

Pour in one smooth, continuous stream — stopping and starting creates seams in the cooled candle
Tilt the container slightly for the initial pour — reduces air trapping
Keep pouring jugs close to the jar during pour — reduces cooling before wax reaches the container
Step 8 — Allow to Cool Undisturbed
Place filled containers on a flat, level surface away from draughts and temperature variations.
Allow to cool completely at room temperature — minimum 24 hours before assessing or moving.
Critical cooling rules:
Do NOT refrigerate soy wax candles — rapid cooling causes excessive frosting, cracking, and separation from glass
Do NOT place in direct sunlight or near heat sources during cooling
Do NOT move or disturb during cooling — movement during cooling creates waves, lines, and surface imperfections
Do NOT cover during cooling — trapping heat creates uneven cooling and surface problems
Allow ambient room temperature cooling — ideally 18°C to 24°C room temperature
What to expect during cooling:
Surface will turn from clear liquid to opaque white as wax solidifies
Sink holes and depressions in the centre are normal — soy wax contracts as it cools
Frosting (crystalline white powdery texture) on surface is normal and natural
Step 9 — Second Pour (Top-Up Pour)
Standard container soy wax typically requires a second top-up pour to fill the sink hole that forms in the centre as the wax contracts during cooling:

Top-up pour temperature: 60°C to 65°C — same as first pour

Step 10 — Trim Wick and Quality Check
After complete cooling and any second pour — final quality steps:

Step 12 — First Burn Protocol
The first burn is the most important burn for a container candle:
First burn duration: Minimum 3 to 4 hours
The first burn must create a full melt pool — liquid wax reaching all edges of the container
If the first burn is extinguished before the full melt pool forms — the candle develops a "memory ring" — it will never create a full melt pool in subsequent burns regardless of burn time — creating a tunnel effect

After 3 to 4 hours — melt pool should reach container edges
