Q. What is diffuser oil?
Diffuser oil is a fragrance or essential oil blend made for aroma diffusers, reed diffusers and scent machines, to fill a space with a pleasant aroma.
Q. What is an oil diffuser?
An oil diffuser is a device that spreads aroma oil into the air, using water mist, reeds, heat or a nebuliser.
Q. What is the difference between diffuser oil and essential oil?
Essential oils are pure plant extracts. Diffuser fragrance oils are blends made for a strong, consistent scent in diffusers, often at a lower cost.
Q. Can I use fragrance oil in a diffuser?
Yes, if it is made for diffusers. Use water-soluble oil in ultrasonic diffusers, and oil-based grades in reed and HVAC diffusers.
Q. What is water-soluble diffuser oil?
It is a diffuser oil blended with a solubiliser so it mixes evenly in water, with no oily film or residue in the tank.
Q. What is reed diffuser oil?
It is a fragrance blended into a reed diffuser base, which travels up the reeds and spreads the scent without heat or flame.
Using Diffuser Oils
Q. How much oil should I put in a diffuser?
For a home ultrasonic diffuser, about 0.2 to 0.3 ml of oil per 100 ml of water. Large commercial units take about 0.6 ml per 200 ml.
Q. How to use an oil diffuser?
Fill the tank with clean water to the line, add the diffuser oil, close the lid and switch on. Run it in 30 to 60 minute sessions.
Q. Why does my diffuser smell weak?
The oil may not suit your diffuser, the room may be large, or the tank needs cleaning. Try a water-soluble grade or a stronger scent.
Q. How often should I clean my diffuser?
Rinse the tank after each use and clean it weekly with water and a little vinegar, as per the maker’s advice.
Safety and Storage
Q. Can diffuser oil be applied to the skin?
No. Diffuser oils are for room fragrance only and are not for skin or internal use.
Q. Are diffuser oils safe around children and pets?
Use them in a ventilated room, keep bottles out of reach, and avoid diffusing near pets, especially cats, or young children for long periods.
Q. Can I use diffuser oil in a humidifier?
Only if the humidifier maker allows it. Many humidifiers are not designed for oils.
Q. What is the shelf life of diffuser oil?
Sealed bottles keep for about 12 to 24 months, stored cool and away from sunlight.
