Q. What is detergent fragrance oil?
Detergent fragrance oil, also called laundry perfume, is a fragrance made for detergent powders, liquids, soaps and cleaners. It stays stable in alkaline bases and leaves a fresh scent on clothes.
Q. Which fragrance is best for detergent powder?
Fresh floral, rose, jasmine, lavender, lemon and sweet lime fragrances sell well. Choose based on your market, price range and the colour of your powder.
Q. Can I use soap fragrance in detergent?
Often yes, if the fragrance is stable in high pH. Always test it in your detergent for scent, stability and colour.
Using Detergent Fragrances
Q. How much perfume should I add to detergent powder?
Most detergent powders use 0.2% to 0.5% perfume, which is 2 to 5 kg per tonne of powder.
Q. How do I add perfume to detergent powder?
Spray the perfume evenly onto the cooled, finished powder while mixing in a ribbon or drum mixer. Do not add it to hot slurry, as heat drives off the fragrance.
Q. How much fragrance is used in liquid detergent?
Liquid detergents usually use 0.3% to 1% fragrance. Pre-mix the fragrance with a small part of the surfactant before adding it to the batch.
Q. How much fragrance is used in fabric conditioner?
Fabric conditioners usually use 0.5% to 1.5% fragrance, added after the base has cooled.
Q. How can I make my clothes smell fresh for longer?
Use a laundry fragrance made for fabric, at the right level, and add a fabric conditioner with a matching scent.
Q. Why does the fragrance in my detergent fade?
Heat during mixing, high moisture, poor packing or a fragrance not stable in high pH can weaken the scent. Use airtight packing and a stable grade.
Q. Can fragrance change the colour of my detergent or soap?
Some fragrances, especially vanilla-type and some floral notes, can discolour white powders and soaps. Ask us for low-discolouration grades.
Safety and Storage
Q. Are detergent fragrance oils safe?
Yes, when used at the right level and within IFRA limits for household products. They are not for direct use on the skin.
Q. Do you provide MSDS for detergent fragrances?
Yes. MSDS and IFRA certificates are available on request.
Q. What is the shelf life of detergent fragrance oil?
Usually 12 to 24 months in sealed packing, stored cool and dark.
