Musk Melon Seed Oil Uses and Starter Formulations – Part 1: Detailed Uses and Formulas 1 to 4

• Startups and small brands planning face serums, light lotions, hair oils or body oils with musk melon seed oil.
• Students and learners in natural and clean-beauty cosmetics.

• All formulas are in % w/w and grams, so they scale up easily. 1% = 1 g in a 100 g batch.

Add 0.5% – 1% vitamin E to protect the oil in finished products.

A light, fast-absorbing face oil for normal to oily skin.

Batch size: 50 g (about two 30 ml bottles)

Method

1. Weigh the carrier oils into a clean glass beaker.
2. Add vitamin E and the essential oils using a fine scale, 0.01 g.
3. Stir well and fill into amber dropper bottles.

Formulator tips

• Apply a small amount to clean, damp skin.
• For an unscented version, use the oils and vitamin E only.

Caution: Patch test before use. Avoid eyes.

A light daily cream with a non-greasy finish.

Batch size: 100 g

Method

1. Heat water and glycerin to 75°C in one beaker.
2. Heat melon seed oil, wax, cetyl alcohol and squalane to 75°C in another.
3. Pour the oil phase into the water phase while mixing with a hand blender for 2 to 3 minutes.
4. Below 40°C, add panthenol, vitamin E and preservative.
5. Check pH, 5.5 to 6.5, and fill into pump bottles.

Formulator tips

• For a richer cream, raise cetyl alcohol to 3%.
• Add 0.3% fragrance or essential oil if a scented version is needed.

Caution: Patch test before use. Avoid eyes.

A light hair oil that does not feel heavy.

Batch size: 100 ml

Method

1. Warm the coconut oil until liquid.
2. Add melon seed oil, castor oil, vitamin E and rosemary oil and stir well.
3. Fill into bottles.

Formulator tips

• Massage into the scalp and hair before washing.
• Use fractionated coconut oil for a version that stays liquid in winter.

Caution: For external use only. Avoid eyes.

A fast-absorbing body oil for use after the shower.

Batch size: 100 ml

Method

1. Weigh the carrier oils into a beaker.
2. Add vitamin E and the essential oils and stir well.
3. Fill into spray or pump bottles.

Formulator tips

• Apply to damp skin after the shower.
• Add 0.2% natural mica for a shimmer body oil.

Caution: Patch test before use. Avoid eyes.

• Trial packs from 100 ml for R&D, bulk packs up to 200 kg for production.
